The protocol for extravasation of mitomycin C may vary from institution to institution. However, the standard of care is to apply a cold pack to the site every 4 hours for the first 24 hours. If the extravasation site is less than 5 mL, alternate topical DMSO and 1% hydrocortisone cream every 2 hours for the first 24 hours then every 3 hours for 7 to 10 days following the extravasation. For any extravasations of more than 5 mL, flush the site according to institutional guidelines. — Jiajoyce R. Conway, DNP, CRNP, AOCNP
